The family of a construction worker who died in a workplace accident in Baylor recently filed suit against several parties they believe to be liable in the mishap. On June 12, sub-contractor employee Jeffrey Thaemert was pinned underneath an elevator while working in the functional shaft during construction of a business school facility in Baylor. Thaemert died after the elevator was activated while he was in its path and crushed him.
According to reports, four parties have been named in the lawsuit filed in Dallas County district court on December 16. The lawsuit claimed the defendants neglected “the grave risks” in the area where Thaemert was working. Inspectors from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) found that the contractors neglected to properly follow safety work protocols.
